SPACE RAT - 3D Experiment in CG Film Making

Who can resist making their own movie. I started writing a script for Space Rat, in 2002/03 inspired by the first Ice Age trailer from Blue Sky Studios. and Warner Brothers cartoons. My film is conceived to be similar to both, in the use of a small character against a large desolate backdrop, and humor that does not rely on dialogue.

This represents the kind of compositing that I am interested in. Heavy effects layered with animation. Coordinated layering, and passes that give you a lot of control in the compositing program. This shot was composited in Combustion, using Combustion for the fire as well.

The style crept into something more accurate to reality though, and I continue to be more interested in exploring realistic effects, particles, explosions, etc, through this story.

This character was rigged before I knew the details of using control curves. I used selection handles always in 2002-03, for rigging. They have the one benefit of never being hidden by geometry.
